Durham, the South African All-rounder, Dies at 94
Ockie Durham, the South African all-rounder who played in 17 Tests between 1951 and 1960, died on Sunday at the age of 94.
Durham was a hard-hitting right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He made his Test debut against England at Lord's in 1951 and went on to score 865 runs at an average of 30.52, with a highest score of 181. He also took 57 wickets at an average of 23.95, with a best bowling performance of 6 for 33.
Durham was a member of the South African team that toured England in 1955 and played in all five Tests. He was also a member of the team that toured Australia in 1952-53 and played in two Tests.
After retiring from playing, Durham became a coach and administrator. He was the manager of the South African team that toured England in 1970 and the chairman of selectors from 1971 to 1973.
Durham was a respected figure in South African cricket and his death will be a loss to the game.
